birth, fresh 48 & newborn photography services

Hiring a professional to photograph your birth, a fresh 48, and even newborn photographs is a reasonably new concept. It can seem like a pretty strange one to those who have never seen or experienced it before; but to our clients, it is one of the two best investments they have made for photography services in their lives- their wedding day and the birth of their baby. For most of us, we only think twice when it comes to our budget for our wedding day photography, why do we often completely avoid a budget for capturing birth of our babies, and the days after they have entered this world? These days are fleeting, and with the change in hormones, the emotional experience, and exhaustion of labor, many parents don't even remember what the heck happened but wish they did. We come in to help you solve this problem. Having a professional birth and newborn photographer to capture these moments for you frees you, your partner, and your guests/family to be present & free to support you. I have found through experience that the moments you need love and support the most are the same moments moms are thankful I was there to capture the experience. Be present for your baby, and let me worry about the technical lighting, angles, and more to that you can have tangible memories of your entire experience, and something to share with your child when the time is right.

Birth FAQ

Q: How long do you stay after my baby is born?
A: I stay up to two hours to photograph your sweet newborn, family visitors, and family photos.

Q: Will you use a flash during birth?
A: I generally try not to use a flash during labor and birthing, but sometimes it is necessary.

Q: When should we call you to come to the hospital?
A: You, your partner, and any other guests in your room should have my phone number saved in their phone! I love to get updates at any phase of labor, including when your water breaks, you go to the hospital, and you are admitted! When you reach 4-5 cm dilation, please have someone CALL me. I will be to the hospital within one hour.

Q: Do you interact with us while you are in our L&D room?
A: It is totally up to you! Prior to the birth of your baby, we will communicate a ton! During that time I will get to know you and your family and exactly what you desire for your birth plan. I do a great job sitting back and documenting as it happens, but normally my clients invite me into the family before their baby even comes and I am interacting where I feel it is appropriate!

Q: What if my birth lasts a really long time?
A: Then I am with you for a really long time! I am in it for the long haul. Your package includes unlimited coverage.

Q: What if I require a C-section?
A: It is your responsibility to communicate with your care provider & to advocate to have me in the operating room, if you wish. If it is an emergency situation, there is no time for communication, and I am not allowed in the OR, but I will resume taking footage as soon as baby has been stabilized and is with your partner.

Q: What if there are serious challenges during the birth of my baby?
A: We will discuss this during your client meeting, but unless otherwise specified, and if the situation allows, I will continue shooting. If something traumatic happens, those photos will be put into a separate folder in your gallery, in case you are not quite ready to see them when they are done. While hard to see, these photos may be very helpful during the healing process after a traumatic birth experience.

Q: Can I just get digital photographs of my birth experience?
A: Yes, please request a custom quote.

Q: What is the album like?
A: We curate and design 10 x 10 linen albums hand crafted in the United States. These luxury albums will immortalize your baby's birth story and create tangible memories for you to look back on for generations to come. Your albums are printed on Fuji Crystal Archival deep luster paper, with the greatest quality color and clarity possible. It will lay flat and your images will print across the center of the spread with industry-leading microfolds for the most minimal wear possible.

Fresh 48 FAQ

Q: What is a Fresh 48 or "freshie?"
A: I come into the hospital within 48 hours of your baby's birth for your session! I will document all the details and grab shots of you all as a family.

Q: How long does a Fresh 48 session take?
A: I will be in the hospital with you for up to an hour and a half. If you want photos of family visitors, additional time will need to be allotted.

Q: Will you take newborn photos of my baby?
A: Yes! I will bring a wrap and one accessory to use with your baby. I will capture photos of them with you and individually.

Newborn FAQ

Q: What is the difference between lifestyle and studio newborn?
A: Studio newborn sessions include all the wraps, props, and perfectly planned lighting. Lifestyle newborn sessions are more natural, where your baby and family are photographed in your home.

Q: What should I do to prep my house for a lifestyle session?
A: I know you are going to be busy with baby, and a clean house won't be your priority! If you would like to document life with your new baby in a raw and authentic way, I am in! If you would like a more styled lifestyle session, I recommend the following.
Turn the inside temperature to 78 degrees, be sure to schedule when your nursery is full of natural light, and make sure the nursery and one other room in the house don't have any clutter!

Q: How many setups do we get with a studio newborn session?
A: The session truly depends on the happiness of your baby! I never want to force an uncomfortable baby to do something that doesn't make them happy, but I will say, I have been called the baby whisperer! If your baby is willing, we will do up to three sets and then get photos of you and your family together!

Q: How long do newborn sessions last?
A: A lifestyle newborn session in your home will last about an hour to an hour and a half. A studio newborn session will last up to three hours.

Q: What is the album like?
A: We curate and design 10 x 10 linen albums hand crafted in the United States. These luxury albums will immortalize your baby's birth story and create tangible memories for you to look back on for generations to come.
